2020 Review

Updated: Jan 18, 2021

My business was just 6 months old going into 2020, I had 3 clients and was looking forward to a year of growth. The year started well and then, as we all know, everything changed.

Coronavirus......

watching daily briefings......

lockdown.....

My mum stayed with us to shield. My husband and eldest son work in an ambulance station and they worked tirelessly throughout. My business slowed and despite looking after my mum and the rest of the family I wanted to do more. I volunteered for the LA to deliver food parcels to others shielding across the borough that didn’t have anyone to help them.

I also focused on learning more about developing the business and networking. I applied for and secured a tutoring role with Sports Structures delivering Sport England Club Matters courses and became a Champion for Koi Sports during April.

As Chair of Tooting & Mitcham United FC, I worked with the club to keep supporters engaged and drive a crowdfunding campaign, which raised over £10,000 for the club. As lockdown started to ease I developed the club's risk assessment and strategy for allowing games to restart. I took on the responsibility of being the match day Covid Officer and with the support of our volunteers, we welcomed fans back in September.

September also saw the launch of The Sports Business Club, something that came out of a conversation with a new contact made over Zoom and has gathered pace to become a national organisation designed to support and provide a source of income for sports clubs and charities.

Looking back on the year, which has ultimately been difficult in many ways, mentally and financially. I feel I have grown both my business and myself personally. Made some great new contacts and have some great projects to work on for 2021. The change to digital has meant more time with my family and the year has given me a wider appreciation for the things that matter. Maybe 2020 wasn't so bad...........
